“Nexus” is a short video I created as a personal statement, a way to show the world who I am and what I can do. I knew the best way to capture people's attention was through storytelling, and the story I needed was closer than I thought.

In writing the script, I focused on crafting a strong opening to immediately hook viewers. I paced the story carefully so that every line served a purpose, driving the story forward while clearly showcasing my abilities.

I developed a detailed shot list with visual references to communicate my vision for the film. I then collaborated closely with the co-director, director of photography, and production designers to plan how each frame would be brought to life.

Directing on set while performing was a delicate balance, I had to deliver a strong performance myself while simultaneously guiding the process to ensure the creative vision stayed intact.

In editing, I focused on capturing attention quickly and sustaining it throughout the film. This meant making bold choices, such as cutting the original 15-second intro down to just 2 seconds. I also ensured the pacing supported the narrative while leaving space for motion design and VFX to enhance the final impact.

The opening statement concludes with a glitch effect that highlights the dual nature of my career, inspired by the visual style of the Arcane animated series. While the initial idea was a clean split screen, the creative process led to a more dynamic, fragmented composition that brought more energy to the shot, making for a more impactful hook.

The Nexus shot was captured against a well-lit green screen at a high frame rate, giving me flexibility to adjust speed in post.

I built a custom environment in Cinema 4D, complete with lighting and material design, then composited the in-camera footage with the 3D scene in After Effects.
Using a combination of effects, from eye glow and depth of field to chromatic aberration, lens flares, and layered colour correction; I brought the sequence to life with a cinematic finish.

I chose to compose an original music score for the film because the story was unique and deserved a soundtrack that reflected its different phases. And also because I could. Lol.

The score was structured into four parts: the first two use an orchestral composition to drive the narrative and build towards the Nexus shot, while the latter two shift into a modern trap style to deliver my manifesto with energy and edge.
In addition, I designed sound effects for key moments, enhancing the immersion.
